How to Use Essential Oils...

INHALE:

breathe in....breathe out...much better.  Inhaling certain essential oils heighten the senses and can have many positive effects.  Here are some ideas...
  • inhale directly from the bottle - or put a few drops in your hand, rub them together, and inhale.  (I also like a few drops of lavender on my pillow at night)
  • diffuse your favorite essential oil.  (I diffuse in my kids room almost every night - yes they are spoiled and each have their own diffusers)
  • pour hot water in a bowl and add a few drops of oil.  Cover your head and the bowl in a tent-like fashion with a towel and take some deep breaths.

TOPICAL APPLICATION:

Many essential oils (young living of course) are safe to use directly on the skin.  Suggested locations would be behind the ears, bottoms of feet, temples, stomach and upper back.

  • place 2-3 drops of oil in the palm of your hand and rub on the desired location.
  • caution - always read the label.  Essential oils are very potent and some might irritate the skin.
  • suggestion - when you first start using, use a carrier oil (coconut oil, olive/vegetable oil) to dilute the essential oil and rub in desired location....after you have used the oils or no irritation has occurred then apply to the skin neat if you wish.

INTERNAL CONSUMPTION:

There are a few of essential oils that work well as dietary supplements or food flavorings.  Below are some tips:

  • place a few drops into a gel capsule and swallow with water (always check the labels first).
  • add 1-2 drops to your meals when cooking (oregano in spaghetti...OMG)
  • add 1-2 drops to a glass (not plastic, must be glass) of water (ex: lemon), NingXia Red, or other natural juice.  YUM!!
  • please follow the recommended dosage on individual product labels and seek advice of health procession before administering oils internally.
